The Current State of American Politics

The current state of American politics will sour our country and prevent us from achieving the victory we must in this world war on terrorism.  As we spend billions of dollars in political campaigns ripping each side apart over past actions, current positions and future plans we fail to see that the divides we are creating between Americans are making us weaker in the face of our most difficult challenge to date.  It is time now for all candidates from every side of the aisle to recognize that divided internally we will continue to be divisive in and toward the world.  The arguments over who was right or wrong in Iraq are no longer relevant.  What is important is to confront the reality that we are currently engaged and must see the mission through to the end.  We must also face the choice of how we want to fight this war.  Until we can have an open debate that transcends partisanship we will not be able to present a unified front to the terrorists.

I ask everyone, whether republican, democrat, independent, or other to move on from the past to allow for a unified future.  Together we can pull together a coalition of the world's civilizations against this cancer of humanity.  A combined effort of all Americans will demonstrate to the world that we are not afraid and will offer the terrorists no cracks into which to insert wedge issues that divide our great nation.  We must put aside partisan differences over religion, squabbles about marriage, fights over funding for medicare, or political debates on issues that don't directly link to our victory in this war.

It's time to create a national strategy to fight this war that incorporates ideas from all political angles in our country.  We need an open, free, and fair debate on what our goals should be in this war, what strategies we should use to achieve those goals, and how to tactically implement those strategies.  We need a national understanding that brings us together rather than drives us apart.  At the same time, we need to work with the international community to develop a humanity-wide anti-terrorism action plan.

I ask every one of you to look beyond your favorite partisan issue and to unite for a global effort to root out the enemies of civilization.  This war on terror is a rare opportunity, much like World War I and II, to bring together the people of the world for a cause more important than any so far faced alone.  We have had this War thrust upon us unwillingly.  We need to fight this War.  We need to Win this War.  Only together, though, will we achieve those goals.  Let's start with American domestic politics now and move this effort out to the world scene as fast as we can.  Together we can unite for victory!
